As political crisis unfolds in the state of Karnataka, Congress members in the Lok Sabha on Monday July 8 raised posters of 'save democracy'.The state slipped into a political turmoil after a total of 22 MLAs resigned and the JD(S) - Congress coalition under the threat of falling. Congress leader in the state and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, at the other side is trying hard to keep the flock together and issuing statement that can act as an assuage to the condition of Congress party in the state. With Congress chief Rahul Gandhi publically offering his resignation and no clarity on the next party president and internal tussle in the party between members like Milind Deora-Sanjay Nirupam, etc, Karnataka political crisis comes as a huge setback for the Grand-old party.

Here is the picture:

Recent political developments:

  • Addressing the media after meeting the Congress party members and ministers on Monday July 8, Siddaramaiah said that ministers have resigned and the coalition will accommodate the rebel MLAs and the rule of JD(S) Congress will continue in the state. The former CM said: "The people of Karnataka has not given mandate to the BJP, a fractured verdict was given. Under the circumstances the people have given to Congress and JD(S) the mandate, BSP also supported us. We are 120 members in assembly they cannot form the govt. Today we met all ministers to discuss the political developments in Karnataka. The ministers voluntarily resigned from their ministership to make way for others to be accommodate. now the parties will reshuffle the govt. Those who were not given berth in the cabinet now we re going to accommodate them. Reshuffle means total reshuffle. All new ministers will come, some MLAs who are unhappy they will be accommodated."

  • Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy said that the issue will be resolved and that the government will run smoothly.

  • The Congress ministers including Deputy CM G Parameshwara tendered their resignations to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief Dinesh Gundu Rao earlier in the day.  Karnataka Minister and Independent MLA Nagesh also resigned from his minister post. In his resignation letter said , "I would extend my support to the government of BJP if called for by your good self."

  •  Yeddyurappa's aide was seen with rebel JD(S) leaders, in pictures accessed by Republic TV.

  • Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi amid accusation of horsetrading by Congress-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka, Defence minister Rajnath Singh said that I would like to say, we did not start the trend of resignation, but Rahul Gandhi did it. After one senior leader, everybody is resigning now. How is BJP even related to this? Our party has nothing to do with what is happening in Karnataka. Our party has never indulged in horse trading, because we have to respect the dignity of the Parliamentary democracy."
