The 66-year-old leader leaves a legacy of an easily-accessible external affairs minister during the first Modi Cabinet, who helped Indian diaspora in distress with her quick response on Twitter to requests for help. Swaraj had opted out of fighting the Lok Sabha elections due to health reasons. She served her fourth term in the House and has long been one of BJP's most powerful woman representative.

On May 31, Dr S. Jaishankar took over as the Minister of External Affairs, replacing Sushma Swaraj. Joining Twitter on June 1, he posted his first tweet, saying that he is proud to follow on the footsteps of former MEA Sushma Swaraj.
