Bengaluru: Thirteen pilgrims including seven women were killed while four others were injured on Friday after the van they were travelling in collided into a truck parked on the side of the Bengaluru-Pune National Highway 48 in Karnataka’s Haveri, as per media reports.
The victims have been identified as Parasuram, 45, Nagesh, 50, Bhagya, 40, Vishalakshi, 40, Arpitha, 18, Manjula, 50, Subhadra Bai, 65, Punya, 50, Manjulabai, 40, Manjula, 50, Rupa, 40, Subhadra Bai, 65, according to media reports. The van driver Adarsh, 23, was also killed in the accident.
As per the local police, the accident took place near the Gunderahalli Cross in the Byadagi taluk of Haveri at around 4 am on Friday.
As per the police, the victims were residents of the Emmehatti village under the Bhadravati taluk of the Shivamogga district.
The police said that the condition of four pilgrims is reportedly critical and they have been admitted to the hospital.
Other victims are being identified.
