Moradabad: A 27-year-old assistant professor's body was recovered with cut marks on the neck from a private university in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad on Monday, police said. Preliminary assessments done by police suggest the possibility of suicide.
Dr Aditi Mehrotra, working as an Assistant professor in the pathology department of Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), located on Delhi Road, was found dead in a room in the guest house, said Superintendent of Police (City) Akhilesh Bhadoria.
On receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and took the body in its custody, Bhadoria said, adding there were cut marks possibly by a knife marks on her neck. He said the body was later sent for post-mortem and the family was informed.
Initial investigation suggests that it is a case of suicide but the actual reason of the death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem, Bhadoria said. The forensic team is collecting evidence from the spot, he said.
Police said that Mehrotra, a resident of Haryana's Rewari district joined the university on June 16 this year, and since then, she has been staying at the guest house on campus.
On hearing the news of Mehrotra's death, the family reached Moradabad from Rewari. Her father Dr Navneet Mehrotra said he had called her last night but she neither received the call nor called him back.
Senior Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil also reached the spot. Further investigation into the matter is underway, officials said.
Body of 18-Year-Old Found Near Railway Track in Ghaziabad
Another case was reported on 30 June when an 18-year-old was found dead near a railway track in Ghaziabad's Loni border, after being hit by a train engine in a suspected suicide case, according to police. Identified as a class 8 student, the teenager's body was found by passersby near a railway track near the Behta-Hazipur area under the Loni border police station area.
The train engine, traveling from Uttar Pradesh's Shamli to Delhi, struck Akash, according to the locomotive driver. ACP Ankur Vihar Bhaskar Verma stated that the police are investigating the case from all possible angles. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
