Puri: At least seven people were injured on Tuesday after Lord Balabhadra's idol fell on them during a religious ceremony, which was part of post-Rath Yatra rituals, in Odisha's Puri. As per the sources, the incident took place when the three idols were being taken from the chariots to the Adapa Mandap of the Gundicha temple on Tuesday evening.
It is being said that all the people, who were injured during the incident, were servitors. The servitors were taking the three idols to the Adapa Mandap by gently swinging the idols after the completion of other rituals post-Rath Yatra.
While taking Lord Balabhadra's idol from his chariot, Taladhwaja, the idol slipped on the makeshift ramp of the chariot, Charamala, and fell on the servitors.
The rescue personnel along with other servitors rushed to the spot and picked up the idol.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured people are claimed to be stable at present. Further details regarding the injured people are being awaited.
Earlier, during two days of Rath-Yatra, the overcrowding led to the suffocation which resulted in the death of one person and injuring several others.
