7-Year-Old Undergoes Surgery, Greater Noida Doctor Operates on Wrong Eye

Noida: A seven-year-old boy in Greater Noida was operated on in the wrong eye, sparking outrage and allegations of negligence against the hospital. Yudhishthir, who had visited Anand Spectrum Hospital in Sector Gamma 1 on November 12 with his father, Nitin Bhati, had initially sought medical attention for persistent watering in his left eye.

According to Bhati, the doctor diagnosed a foreign object in the boy’s left eye and recommended surgery under anesthesia, charging Rs 45,000 for the procedure. "I took my son Yudhishthir to the same hospital a week ago, where they told me he has an allergy," Bhati said. "However, when the irritation was not reduced even after a week, they said he needed anaesthesia and an operation. Later, the doctor said that the operation, which cost Rs 45,000, was successful, and they said a fine metal-like thing was removed from the eye, whose photo was shown on a mobile phone."

However, upon returning home, Bhati’s wife noticed that the surgery had been performed on Yudhishthir’s right eye instead of the left, the eye that had been causing the issue. Disturbed by the oversight, the family consulted another eye hospital, where they were informed that no surgery had been performed on the affected eye.

Feeling deceived, Bhati accused the hospital of conducting a “fake” surgery. When he confronted Dr. Anand Verma, he claimed the doctor and his staff misbehaved. Bhati has lodged a complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautam Buddha Nagar, calling for the revocation of the doctor’s license and the sealing of the hospital.

The police confirmed that an investigation is underway, assuring that “proper action will be taken soon.”
