A woman who witnessed the conversation between the accused has revealed chilling details of the Pune rape incident.

Pune: A manhunt has been launched for the accused who allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary state transport bus at a bus stand in Pune, raising serious concerns over women’s safety in the city. 

The accused has been identified as Dattatraya Ramdas Gade (36). He also had cases of theft and chain snatching registered against him.

Chilling Details of Rape Incident In Pune

Giving a detailed sequence of events, a woman has informed police that the victim was waiting for a bus for Phaltan in Satara district at one of the platforms around 5.45 am on Tuesday.

Accused Called Victim ‘Didi’ Before Raping Her

A man approached her and engaged her in conversation, calling her `Didi' (sister), and said the bus for Satara had arrived at another platform. woman told cops as per a report by the news agency PTI. 

As the lights were switched off inside the bus, the woman was unsure about entering the bus; however, she was convinced by the accused to enter the vehicle.

“The man told the woman that she could board the bus and look for herself using a torch. He then followed her inside and raped her before fleeing, the woman told police as per the reports in the news agency PTI.

Exercise Caution in Public Spaces, says Maharashtra Woman Panel 

Condemning the rape incident, Maharashtra State Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar urged women to exercise caution while interacting with strangers.

"I urge young girls and women to be cautious in public spaces and not trust strangers blindly. They should seek assistance from the authorities and prioritize their safety. Society has dangerous elements, and their numbers are increasing by the day. We must remain vigilant," Chakankar said.

Chakankar said that the administration has been instructed to provide counselling to the victim.
