New Delhi: Amritpal Singh, the Khadoor Sahib MP who was in jail, was granted parole to take oath as Lok Sabha MP. While the Khadoor Sahib MP is out, his wife and family has been demanding his release.
Her mother has also said that her son is not a Khalistani supporter and must be released as soon as possible.
In a statement to the media, Amritpal Singh's mother has said that her son is not a Khalistani supporter and that he just wants to save the youth of Punjab. The jailed MP's mother demanded his release saying that everyone wants him to be out of jail.
She further said, “I don't know why all the restrictions are being put on Amritpal, there are serious convicts who are out on bail."
She added, "People have elected him but still there are restrictions on him. This is an insult to the democracy.”
Jailed Amritpal Singh, who is lodged in a prison in Assam's Dibrugarh district for offences under the National Security Act, has taken oath as MP in Lok Sabha, along with Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
Singh, a Khalistani sympathiser who heads the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit, has been allowed to meet his family in Delhi; his parole was granted by the district magistrate of Amritsar from where he was arrested in April 2023 for barging into a police station in February and clashing with police personnel in a bid to free one of his aides from custody.
For taking oath, Amritpal Singh was granted a four-day custody parole, beginning July 5, in view of the travel from Assam to Delhi and back.
