Assam Cabinet Announces Provision of Bicycles for Students, Release of Salaries to Teachers in KAAC
Assam Cabinet announces bicycles for over 3 lakh students, new polytechnics, and salary releases for teachers to enhance education.
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma , made significant decisions aimed at enhancing education and infrastructure in the state during its recent meeting. Notably, the cabinet resolved to provide bicycles to over 3 lakh students to promote regular school attendance and reduce dropout rates among secondary-level students.
"In today's meeting of the Assam Cabinet, we resolved to provide bicycles to over 3 lakh students, allot Rs 150 crore for 3 new polytechnics, transfer government land for railway line doubling, and re-engage 451 part-time faculties in engineering colleges and release salaries for 131 teachers in KAAC," CM Sarma announced on his official X handle.
The initiative will see the procurement of bicycles for 3,23,640 students (both boys and girls) in Class IX across government and provincial schools for the 2024-25 academic year. "The bicycles will ensure ease of communication and security to cover the distance from students' homes to school and vice versa on time," stated the cabinet.
Enhancing Academic Activities and Infrastructure Development
In addition to the bicycle initiative, the cabinet approved the construction of three new polytechnics in Hajo, Majuli, and Tingkhong. "To imbibe technical skills amongst students, three new polytechnics are coming up at Hajo, Majuli and Tingkhong," the Chief Minister's post elaborated. A financial sanction of ₹2,150 crore has been re-validated for the construction of these institutes.
The Assam Cabinet also addressed the urgent need for qualified faculty in engineering colleges by approving the re-engagement of 451 part-time faculty against existing vacant posts. This decision is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted academic classes in government engineering colleges and polytechnics.
Furthermore, to enhance the railway infrastructure in the region and generate employment opportunities, the cabinet approved the transfer of 8 bighas of government land to NF Railways for the construction of a doubling railway line between Azara and Kamakhya. In a bid to rectify long-standing pay discrepancies, the cabinet also approved the removal of pay scale anomalies for Computor Grade-II, Grade-I, and Head Computor positions under the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, Assam .
With these initiatives, the Assam government aims to bolster educational opportunities and infrastructural development, fostering a brighter future for the state's youth.
