August 2024 Bank Holidays: In August, banks across India will be closed for 13 days due to national, regional holidays, and weekends. The list includes the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, Ker Puja, Tendong Lho Rum Faat, Patriot's Day, Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami.
List of bank holidays was released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI divides holidays for all the banks in the country under three categories- Negotiable Instruments Act holidays, the Real-Time Gross Settlement holidays and the Banks' Closing of Accounts
- August 3 (Saturday): Ker Puja – Banks will be closed in Agartala.
- August 8 (Thursday): Tendong Lho Rum Faat– Banks will be closed in Sikkim.
- August 13 (Tuesday): Patriot’s Day – Banks will be closed in Manipur.
- August 15 (Thursday): Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi)– All banks across India will be closed.
- August 19 (Monday): Raksha Bandhan/Jhulana Purnima/Birthday of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur– Banks will be closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
- August 20 (Tuesday): Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi– Banks will be closed in Kerala.
- August 26 (Monday): Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi – Banks will be closed in Gujarat, Odisha, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly, considering these closures throughout the month.

This year, Independence Day on August 15 falls on a Thursday, meaning there won't be an extended weekend during that week.
However, residents in certain states can enjoy a long weekend thanks to the closure of banks on Monday, August 26, for Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi. This holiday follows the fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month.
States where this long weekend applies include Gujarat, Odisha, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
