Aurangzeb Row Violence: Nagpur Police Commissioner Leads Flag March As City Returns To Normalcy After Curfew Lifted

After communal violence over the Aurangzeb row, the curfew was lifted in several areas of Nagpur. Police conducted a flag march after inspecting Mahal Bazaar.

Nagpur: Days after communal violence struck the city of Nagpur over Aurangzeb row, the curfew has been completely lifted in Kotwali, Tehsil, and some other areas from 3 pm on Sunday. The City Commissioner of Police is said that he conducted a flag march after inspecting the Mahal Bazaar area.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Ravinder Singal stated that the situation in Nagpur is under control, which is why the curfew has been lifted. He added that, with the upcoming festival in mind, the police administration remains on high alert, and action is underway to arrest all the remaining accused.

Aurangzeb Row Violence: Curfew Lifted in Nagpur

Curfew was lifted in Nagpur's Pachpavali, Shantinagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, and Imamwada areas while it was relaxed in Kotwali, Tehsil and Ganeshpeth between 7 pm and 10 pm on Saturday. Giving further relief to Nagpur residents, Singal said, police has lifted curfew from Kotwali, Tehsil, Ganeshpeth and Yashodhara Nagar Police Station areas of Nagpur city.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal says, "Things are normal here. There is no such issue right now, and life is normal everywhere."

CP Ravinder Singal added, "till now, 13 FIRs have been lodged. More than 115 people are in custody, and further action is going on."

The officer also warned the miscreants of spreading any rumour and said, “before posting anything, think a thousand times about the consequences of what you are posting. If there is any such thing, then definitely do not post it, and if you do so, action will be taken against you.”

How Nagpur Violence Erupted 

On March 17, Nagpur city witnessed large-scale stone pelting after violence broke out following rumors that a ‘chadar’ with holy inscriptions had been burned during a protest. However, authorities later confirmed that these rumors were baseless, and no such incident occurred.

The clashes resulted in over 30 police officers being injured, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, along with several civilians. Rioters also caused significant damage to both public and private property, including cars and motorcycles.
