In a now-deleted tweet, Rijiju said that 'being a cop is a thankless job'. The tweet comes after Delhi Police held mass protests because of Tis Hazari incident

In a now-deleted tweet, BJP leader and Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju tweeted that “Being a cop is a thankless job”. Rijiju in the now-deleted tweet further wrote, “But they don’t they do it for the thanks. Police officers put their life on the line every day. They are damned if they do, they are damned if they don’t.” The tweet comes following the mass protest being held by the Delhi Police with regards to the Tis Hazari incident.

Hundreds of police personnel protest

Hundreds of police personnel gathered outside the police headquarters on Tuesday to protest the assault on policemen. The protests come after the policemen clashed with lawyers. Several policemen were holding placards that read, "We are human in police uniforms" and "Protectors Need Protection" were outside the police headquarters at ITO and urged their seniors to stand with them to save the honour of the uniform.

An on-duty policeman was thrashed by advocates outside the Saket Court

An on-duty policeman was thrashed by advocates outside the Saket Court on Monday. In a video of the purported incident, lawyers were seen beating up the policeman who was riding a bike. One of the lawyers was also seen slapping the policeman. When the policeman was leaving the spot, the lawyer also hit his bike with his helmet.

About the incident

The lawyers have claimed a scuffle broke with Delhi Police after they were denied parking space. Lawyers claimed that Police officers heckled them and open fired. As many as four lawyers were injured. At least 20 police personnel were also injured while 17 vehicles vandalised, according to officials and eyewitnesses. On the other hand, Delhi police claimed that violence began on Saturday after on-duty officers objected to a lawyer parking his car in front of a lockup. A police statement said that a large number of lawyers responded angrily to their request. CCTV footage shows lawyers manhandling the police officers.
