Mahakumbh Nagar: Prayagraj Police have arrested Amit Kumar Jha, a resident of Hooghly district, West Bengal, for allegedly recording videos of women bathing and changing clothes during the Maha Kumbh and uploading them on social media.

Bengal Man Arrested  

The arrest was made on Thursday, and officials have stated that Jha admitted to filming the videos to gain social media followers and monetise his content on various digital platforms.

A senior police official mentioned that a case has been registered against Jha at the Cyber Crime Police Station under sections 296/79 of the BNS and relevant provisions of the IT Act. The incident has raised concerns about privacy and the misuse of social media platforms for personal gain.

Prayagraj Police shared a social media post that reads, “The accused who made the video of women bathing and changing clothes at Maha Kumbh and made it viral on YouTube has been arrested.”

The Maha Kumbh, a significant religious event, attracts millions of devotees from across the country. The actions of the accused have not only violated the privacy of the women involved but also tarnished the sanctity of the event.

Mahakumbh Concluded 

The Maha Kumbh 2025 concluded on Wednesday but a large number of pilgrims still arriving the Sangam, including many who missed taking the holy dip during the 45-day grand event. 

As traffic restrictions have been eased, the grounds near the mela ghats now also have become a meeting point of cars and other vehicles from different states as many people are driving straight to the ghats. 

While there is no official estimate, several thousands have flocked to the Triveni Sangam since Friday morning, performing the bathing rituals till the wee hours.

Ghats Still Alive

The ghats were still alive with energy and enthusiasm of people, many of whom have come from Bihar , Maharashtra , Tamil Nadu, besides several local residents of Prayagraj as well.

Many pilgrims who couldn't make it to the Maha Kumbh Mela, have come to the Sangam, and their feeling expressed before and after taking the holy dip at the confluence reflected the same excitement as shown by those who did the 'snan' during the mela period.

Most of them are thronging the Sangam Nose, the tip of the confluence point, while ghats near it were also filled with pilgrims.
