Bengaluru: In a shocking incident caught on CCTV, a Bengaluru-based shopkeeper running a medical store was allegedly attacked by a machete for not paying extortion money.

The Karnataka BJP unit took to X to share the video clip of the alleged incident and criticised the Congress-led state government over ‘lawlessness and corruption.’

It said that Karnataka's Bengaluru, once celebrated for its booming IT sector, startups, and investments, is now in the ‘news for drugs, corruption, lawlessness and so on.’

"In a shocking incident captured on CCTV, a medical storekeeper was attacked using a machete for not paying "Roll Call/Haftha," with the miscreant also breaking the showcase glass," the Karnataka BJP stated on Twitter.

“The law and order situation in Karnataka has deteriorated significantly since @INCKarnataka took over the administration. Appeasement politics and a lenient attitude towards thugs, terrorists, and goons have put the lives of people in Karnataka in danger. Let’s hope no Congress ministers dismiss this as a mere prank,” it added.

Hanuman Chalisa Row

In a similar but separate incident that stoked nationwide outrage, a shopkeeper was attacked near Siddanna Layout in Bengaluru in March this year.

The incident unfolded after he played Hanuman Chalisa during 'Azaan' time. The videos of the incident circulated on social media showed a confrontation between the shopkeeper and a group of youngsters which soon escalated into physical violence.
