Big Relief For Electricity Consumers as Odisha Govt Announce No Power Hike For 2025-26

In a relief to electricity consumers, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission announced that there would be no increase in power tariffs for FY 2025-26.

Bhubaneswar: In a relief to electricity consumers, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) announced that there would be no increase in power tariffs for the fourth consecutive year in 2025-26.

The power commission has decided to keep the retail supply tariff for the 2025-26 fiscal year the same as it was for 2024-25.

OERC Secretary and Director (Regulatory Affairs) Priyabrata Patnaik said that  OERC has waived the Rs 60 charge for smart meters for connections with a load of up to 2 kilowatts, benefiting more than 80 lakh consumers across the state.

“For domestic consumers, those using up to 50 units will be charged 2.90 paisa per unit, while those consuming between 51 and 200 units will pay 4.70 paisa per unit. For consumption between 201 and 400 units, the charge will be Rs 5.70 per unit, and for usage beyond 400 units, the rate will be Rs 6.10 per unit,” official said. 

Discount For Consumers Who Want Electricity Bills Online

Additionally, Patnaik mentioned that consumers who choose to receive their electricity bills via SMS, email, or any other electronic format will receive a Rs 10 rebate.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning in multiple districts on Monday.

According to the IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, thunderstorms with lightning were expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts. The department also predicted light rainfall in Odisha’s coastal regions.

On Saturday, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in both coastal and interior areas of the state, while Ganjam district witnessed heavy downpour.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Rangeilunda (8 cm), followed by Chhatrapur (7 cm). Several other areas, including Aska, Buguda, and Ganjam, received 5 cm of rain, while Kakatpur and Gop in Puri district also recorded 5 cm.
