New Delhi: At least three people including two minor boys drowned in rain water collected at underpasses in Delhi on Saturday after incessant rainfall left the national capital region water-logged on Friday. The incident occurred at two flooded underpasses located in Samaypur Badli and Okhla Industrial Area in Delhi. The bodies of all the three deceased have been shifted to mortuary for post-mortem and legal proceedings have been initiated.

2 Boys Drowned in Samaypur Badli

According to the information shared by the Delhi police, two minor boys were drowned in rain water accumulated at Siraspur Fatak near underpass in Outer North Delhi. On information, a police team from Samaypur Badli police station and fire personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the two boys from the water.

A senior police official said that the incident was reported at around 2.25 pm. It was found at the spot that the underpass near the metro was flooded with almost 2.5-3 feet of water. The fire brigade conducted a search operation and recovered the bodies of 2 boys of the age 9 years.

Prima facie, it appeared to be a case of suspected drowning while the boys were taking a bath. Legal proceedings have been initiated in the case.

Man Drowns in Okhla Industrial Area

In another incident, which took place in South East Delhi’s Okhla Industrial Area, a man drowned in rain water at an underpass in Okhla. The incident took place on June 28, at around 6.23 am, following which the local police and the fire department personnel reached the spot.

DCP South East Delhi, Rajesh Deo said that the man, later identified as Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary (60), a resident of Badarpur, was recovered in an unconscious state from the underpass water and was shifted to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Further legal action has been initiated into the matter.
