BREAKING: Delhi-Bound IndiGo Flight From Varanasi Receives Bomb Threat, Search Operation Underway

IndiGo flight 6E 2232 from Varanasi, received a bomb threat. Officials said, nothing suspicious was found during the search inside the flight at Delhi Airport.

New Delhi: New Delhi: Bomb threat continues to create chaos in the national capital, as the Delhi Airport authority on Saturday as well received a threat regarding a bomb allegedly being carried by a passenger on the Delhi-bound IndiGo flight number 6E 2232 from Varanasi. The flight was coming from Varanasi to the national capital on Saturday evening, when the bomb scare was flagged at the airport.

Immediately after the threat was received, the airport security and the IGI Airport police implemented preventive measures and evacuated a runway for the emergency landing of the aircraft.

As a precautionary measure, the passengers at Terminal-3 were alerted and the terminal was also evacuated.

IGI Airport police are taking legal action in the matter

The area around the runway was cordoned-off and all the emergency services were put in place in a high alert mode near the runway.

Amid high alert situation, the IndiGo 6E 2232, from Varanasi, landed at the airport at around 5.50 pm at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. According to the airport sources, the flight was immediately taken to an isolated place and all the passengers were safely evacuated and were thoroughly checked.

Following the evacuation of the flight, a search operation was initiated by the security forces and the bomb disposal squad inside the aircraft.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani stated, “On June 1, at 05.38 pm, a female caller telephonically informed DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited) security staff that her husband who is arriving from Varanasi to Delhi in Indigo flight is carrying Bomb in his handbag.”

Accordingly, following standard security protocol, a thorough inspection was conducted and nothing suspicious was found inside the aircraft. Legal action has been initiated in the matter.

“Joint interrogation of the concerned passenger namely Vimal Kumar (42), a resident of UP’s Meerut, was conducted who stated that his wife is not mentally stable and saw some news regarding bombs in aircraft around 4-5 days back so she made this call,” DCP Rangnani.

Further legal action into the matter is being taken.
