An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Leh region in Ladakh on Monday night, leading to the fear of shooting stones incidents.

Ladakh: An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Leh region in Ladakh on Monday night, leading to the fear of landslides and shooting stones incidents. According to the information, the tremors were felt in the entire Leh region.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS), the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring of earthquake activity in the country, confirmed the earthquake on X.

The NCS stated that the earthquake, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, hit the Leh region at 10.16 PM on Monday. The centre of the earthquake was found located at a depth of 178 km.

The government nodal agency has however not alerted about any natural calamity due to the earthquake.

“EQ of M: 4.2, On: 03/06/2024 22:16:05 IST, Lat: 35.77 N, Long: 76.98 E, Depth: 178 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh,” the National Center for Seismology said.
