New Delhi: In a temporary relief for the tainted JDS leader and former Karnataka Minister HD Revanna, a court in Karnataka on Thursday granted him an interim bail in connection with a sexual assault case on the conditions that the JDS leader will have to furnish a bond worth Rs 5,00,000 and that he will not destroy any evidence and or try to influence any witnesses in the case, Republic has learnt.

Revanna has secured the interim bail until tomorrow. His main bail hearing, however, will take place at 3 PM on Friday.

The case of sexual harassment of a 47-year-old house help was registered against Revanna and his absconding son Prajwal Revanna at the Holenarsipur town police station in the Hassan district on April 28. The complainant had alleged that the father-son duo had sexually abused her at the 66-year-old MLA's house.

Revanna had filed the bail application in the sexual harassment case, after securing conditional bail in the kidnapping case.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the matter had urged the court to reject Revanna's bail plea as SP Jayna Kothari sought his judicial custody.

Revanna’s advocates, on the other hand, sought anticipatory bail in the matter. "This is a bailable case," Revanna's lawyer Arun had said in the court, according to PTI.

The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) hearing the matter gave interim relief to Revanna till Friday.

The SIT had issued two notices to Revanna, son of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, and Prajwal to join the investigation, but both of them skipped it.

Prajwal, who reportedly left for Germany on April 27, is still at large.

A Special Court for Elected Representatives had on Monday granted bail to Revanna in case where he is accused of having kidnapped one of the women allegedly abused sexually by his son Prajwal.

Revanna, who had been arrested by the SIT on May 4 in the kidnapping case, was then released from jail.

The 33-year-old Prajwal is facing charges of multiple instances of sexually abusing women. The scandal has raised a political storm across the state.

An Interpol Blue Corner Notice issued against Prajwal in an effort to bring him back to India to face the law has not yet yielded any concrete result.
