Chandigarh: Ahead of the Assembly polls in Haryana, the Congress party may face a major setback, as two of its prominent leaders are likely to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday. According to the sources, ahead of the upcoming polls, sitting MLA Kiran Choudhary and her daughter Shruti Choudhary, a former-MP, are likely to join the BJP. Earlier in the day, both the mother-daughter duo tendered their resignation from the primary membership of the party on Tuesday.
Both the leaders are likely to take the membership of the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday at around 9 am, in presence of senior BJP leaders. If reports are to be believed, a few other Congress leaders are also likely to quit the party and join the BJP in coming days.
While resigning from the Congress after remaining with the for almost 4 decades, Kiran Choudhary, in a veiled attack at former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, said, “There is a limit to humiliation one can suffer.”
Kiran Choudhary, in her letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, wrote, “It is most unfortunate that the Congress Party in Haryana is being run as the personal fiefdom leaving no space for sincere voices like mine, who have been stifled, humiliated and conspired against in a most well-orchestrated and systematic manner, thus, significantly hampering my diligent efforts to represent our people and uphold the values, I have always stood for.”
On the other hand, in her letter to the party president, Kharge, Shruti Choudhary wrote, “The Congress Party in Haryana has unfortunately become one-person-centric who has compromised the interest of the party for his own selfish and petty interests and it is thus time for me to move on so that I may continue to uphold the interest of my people and the values that I stand for.”
