Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena on Sunday directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to keep orders on the transfer of 5,000 teachers, who have been posted in the same school for more than 10 years, in abeyance as an interim measure.

The decision came after a delegation of Delhi BJP leaders and representatives of teachers met Saxena at his office.

 "Everyone in the state and country knows that the CM has to win a vote of confidence tomorrow. All the MLAs will reach the Assembly by 10 am and discussion on floor test will start by 11 am. We all are with CM. We all know that it is not difficult to win a floor test as we have enough numbers. The cabinet expansion will be done at 3 pm tomorrow," says Congress leader Pradeep Yadav following a meeting of Mahagathbandhan MLAs at Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren's residence in Ranchi.

 "A conspiracy is underway in the entire nation to annihilate the Sanatan Dharma, and Rahul Gandhi is playing a key role in this," says Union Minister Giriraj Singh. 

A cheque of Rs 2 lakh was on Sunday handed over to the family members of a woman who died during the stampede in Hathras, officials said.

Vimlesh Devi (50) was among the 121 people who died in the stampede that happened after the 'satsang' of self-styled godman Surajpal alias Narayan Sakar Hari alias Bhole Baba in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras.

A cheque of Rs 50,000 was also handed over to 18-year-old Mahi, who was injured in the stampede. The ex-gratia amounts were given from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and handed over by Ghaziabad Mayor Sunita Dayal, a statement said. (With inputs from PTI)

On the building collapse incident in Surat, City ACP, NP Gohil said, "A criminal case has been registered against three accused in connection with Surat building collapse. Based on the enquiry of PIL, evidence was found which showed that the three accused- Raj Kakadiya, Ramilaben Kakadiya and Ashwin were involved in this offence. The building was unfit for habitation. Surat Municipal Corporation had already sent a notice that the building is unfit for habitation. Out of the three accused, two are owners of the building. Despite knowing that the building was unfit for habitation, the house was given to tenants. One of the three accused, Ashiwn has been arrested."

Surat building collapse: "This incident happened yesterday at around 2.30 pm in Pal area. A six-storey building collapsed. A rescue operation was started with help of Surat City police officials, along with teams of fire department, NDRF and others. One woman was rescued and then taken to hospital for further treatment. We have recovered seven bodies and all have been identified," says NP Gohil, ACP I - Division, Surat City Police.

On the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami says, "Kallakurichi illicit liquor case should be investigated by CBI. The state police is involved in this matter so if the state government investigates, the real culprits will not be punished. As many as 49 people were rescued from a water-logged resort amid rainfall in Maharashtra's Thane district on Sunday, an official from the National Disaster Response Force. 

A team from the NDRF used boats and life jackets to rescue people stranded at the resort due to flooding in the Shahpur area, the official stated.

Judicial Inquiry Commission arrived in Hathras to record the statements of eyewitnesses. 123 people lost their lives in a stampede that occurred during a Satsang conducted by 'Bhole Baba', on 2nd July.

The Madras High Court on Sunday said the burial of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu chief K Armstrong can be done in other locations identified by the Greater Chennai Corporation. Justice Subbarayan said Armstrong's body could be buried in a place suggested by the GCC and moved to a better location later on.
The hearing into the case was adjourned till 12 pm today as the petitioner's counsel sought time to get instructions about different sites for burial.

The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a batch of pleas related to the controversy-ridden medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024, including those alleging irregularities and malpractices in the May 5 test and seeking a direction to conduct it afresh. The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET-UG, recently told the apex court that scrapping the exam would be "counterproductive" and "seriously jeopardise" lakhs of honest candidates in the absence of any proof of large-scale breach of confidentiality.

A fresh batch of over 6,000 pilgrims left the city early Sunday to join the annual Amarnath yatra in Kashmir. The tenth batch of 6,145 pilgrims left Jammu’s Baghwati Nagar base camp in two separate convoys of 238 vehicles.
