EAM Jaishankar To Pay 3-Day Visit To Qatar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will pay a three-day visit to Qatar beginning Monday to review overall bilateral ties, especially in areas of trade, investment, energy and security.

Jaishankar will meet Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday.

"External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will pay an official visit to the State of Qatar from December 30 to January 1," it said.

The MEA said Jaishankar's visit will enable both sides to review various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and people-to-people, as well as the regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Police Use Water Cannons, Mild Force To Disperse BPSC Protesters In Patna

Police on Sunday used water cannons and mild force to disperse protesters demanding the cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam held here on December 13.

The protesters, who were joined earlier in the day by Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishore at Gandhi Maidan, attempted to march towards the chief minister’s residence in the evening, prompting police to take action, district magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh said.

The protesters also tried to jump over barricades while marching from Gandhi Maidan towards JP Golumber, he added.

Mob Attacks Lucknow Civic Team, Case Lodged

A municipal corporation team running a campaign against people illegally collecting garbage in the Indira Nagar area here on Sunday was allegedly attacked by a mob, with Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal alleging that the attackers were "Rohingya".

Police have registered a case in this connection.

Kharkwal told PTI that a Lucknow Municipal Corporation team was taking action against people illegally collecting garbage in handcarts.

During this, they were attacked by a mob of about 250. They even snatched the chain of a woman employee. When her driver and other workers came to her rescue, the mob attacked them as well, the mayor said.

She added, "I called the police commissioner but he did not receive my call. I sent him a message him and asked him to send a force. When there was no response, I called the district magistrate, who sent his officers to the spot." "We have told the police that if action is not taken against the accused by Monday, the municipal corporation will take action itself," Kharakwal added.

Beed sarpanch murder case: Actor Prajakta Mali meets Maharashtra CM

Actor Prajakta Mali on Sunday met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a day after she demanded an apology from BJP MLA Suresh Dhas for dragging her name in his attempt to target NCP minister Dhananjay Munde in the Beed sarpanch murder case.

She called on Fadnavis at his official bungalow in Mumbai.

The details of the meeting are not available.

Mali on Saturday said Dhas' comments were in bad taste and baseless, asserting that women, especially actors, should not be made soft targets.

"Dhas' remarks linking me to Dhananjay Munde are derogatory. I had been to Parli for a cultural event, an award function. Artists like me travel to several cities to entertain audiences. Why name just women? Haven't male actors attended such programmes organised by politicians? Dhas has used my name for his selfish interests," she said.

The actor had said she would meet the chief minister to demand action against those making fake video clips about her.

U'khand: BJP Announces Candidates For Six Mayoral Seats

The BJP on Sunday announced its candidates for six out of a total of 11 mayoral seats in Uttarakhand for the forthcoming urban local body polls.

Kiran Jaisal is the party's candidate for the mayor's post in Haridwar, Asha Upadhyay for Shrinagar, Shailendra Rawat for Kotdwar, Kalpana Devlal for Pithoragarh, Ajay Verma for Almora and Vikas Sharma for Rudrapur. The party is yet to announce its candidates for the remaining seats.

Elections to the 100 civic bodies in the state including 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 nagar panchayats are scheduled to be held on January 23.

Polling will be held using ballot papers and the results will be announced on January 25.

At present, BJP is the dominant party in the civic bodies of Uttarakhand.

There are a total of 30,83,500 voters in the state out of which 14,93,519 are women, 15,89,467 are men and 514 others.

Shiv Sena Veteran Satishchandra Pradhan Dead

Former Shiv Sena MP and first mayor of Thane, Satishchandra Pradhan, passed away on Sunday at a hospital here due to age-related health issues, his family members said.

Pradhan's funeral procession will leave his house on Monday morning.

The former Rajya Sabha member played a key role in forming the Shiv Sena alongside Bal Thackeray in 1966.

He expanded the party organisation in Thane city and district.

As the first mayor of Thane Municipal Corporation, Pradhan was a key figure in the city's development.

He held important positions in the cultural, arts, and sports fields.

Dadoji Konddev Stadium and Ram Ganesh Gadkari Theatre are Pradhan's contributions to Thane.

Rajnath Singh Pays Tributes at Ambedkar Memorial in MP's Mhow

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday paid floral tributes at the memorial Dr B R Ambedkar at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district.

The memorial of Ambedkar, the architect of India's Constitution, has been built at his birthplace in the Kali Paltan area of Mhow cantonment, located about 25 km from the Indore district headquarters.

"Defence Minister Singh accompanied by General Dwivedi paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar and later took darshan of his asthikalash (ashes) kept at the central hall of the memorial," Ambedkar Memorial Society secretary Rajesh Wankhede told PTI.

"Singh then went the first floor of the memorial building and saw the life of Dr Ambedkar depicted through various portraits and paintings put up there," Wankhede said.

Earlier, General Dwivedi received Singh upon his arrival for a two-day visit to MP at a helipad situated at the Army War College (AWC) in Mhow cantonment on Sunday afternoon.

Thereafter, Singh addressed the officers and jawans in the Mhow cantonment.

Kashmir University Defers Exams Because Of Snow

Kashmir University has postponed all exams scheduled for Monday in view of the inclement weather.

The information was shared by the varsity in a statement on Sunday.

The varsity spokesperson said fresh dates for the postponed papers will be notified later separately.

Kashmir received heavy snowfall on Friday and Saturday, resulting in some areas of the valley getting cut off.

While snow has been cleared from main highways and arterial roads, the work is still on in some of the remote areas of the Union Territory.

AAP Failed To Give Rs 1,000 To Punjab Women, Now 'peddling Similar Falsehood' In Delhi: Ravneet Bittu

Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu on Sunday hit out at AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, saying his party failed to fulfill its poll promise of giving Rs 1,000 to every woman in Punjab and is now "peddling a similar falsehood" in Delhi ahead of elections.

Bittu, who is the Minister of State for Railway and Food Processing Industries alleged that former Delhi chief minister has a proven track record of deception, adding that his empty promises are not worth the risk.

He further said the AAP government in Punjab has not yet provided Rs 1,000 per month to women, a promise made by the party before the 2022 assembly elections.

"Kejriwal’s promise of Rs 1,000 to every woman in Punjab in 2022 was a blatant lie, a deceitful tactic to lure voters. Three years have passed and the women of Punjab are still waiting for this promised financial support," Bittu, a BJP leader, posted on X.

"Now, he's at it again, peddling a similar falsehood in Delhi, promising Rs 2,100 to the women of Delhi. This is nothing but a treacherous attempt to manipulate voters once more," Bittu alleged.
