Pune: In the latest development in the Pune Porsche crash, the mother of the accused teen, Shivani Agarwal, has been arrested by the Pune Police’s Crime Branch. Pune Police arrested Shivani Agarwal on Saturday, June 1, said Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar.
It was alleged that the blood sample of the Pune accident accused teen was swapped with that of his mother. The Pune Police made the arrest after confirmation that his blood samples were replaced with those of his mother, said Amitesh Kumar. The Pune CP said the accident investigation has revealed that the juvenile's blood samples were replaced with those of his mother.
Police had told a local court two days ago that the blood samples of the juvenile were exchanged with those of a woman, reported PTI.
The minor accused's mother will be produced before the court later in the day.
Shivani Agarwal was traced after she returned to the city from Mumbai. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report showed no traces of alcohol in the first blood sample, which raised suspicions. Later, a second blood test was conducted at a different hospital and DNA tests confirmed the samples were not of the same person.
Soon the focus shifted to the medical staff who were accused of throwing away minor accused’s samples in a dustbin. Subsequently, two doctors (Dr Halnor and Dr Ajay Tawade) and one ward boy of Sassoon Hospital were taken in police custody in connection with tampering with the minor's blood samples. After the arrest of doctors, police launched a search for Shivani who was absconding.
The father of the accused was also booked in connection with blood sample manipulations.
Two software engineers were killed in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar in Pune after a Porsche allegedly being driven by the drunk minor rammed into their two wheeler.
While the 17-year-old minor has been sent to an observation home until June 5, his father, realtor Vishal Agarwal and grandfather Surendra Agarwal have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family's driver and putting pressure on him to take the blame.
Earlier on Friday, the Pune Police wrote to the Juvenile Justice Board seeking permission to probe the minor accused in connection with blood sample tampering.
