UP Police Encounters Lakhimpur Kheri Gangrape Accused In Retaliatory Firing

Lakhimpur Kheri: The Lakhimpur Kheri gangrape accused was on Sunday nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh police after brief encounter leading to a bullet injury on one of the accused’s leg. The incident occurred in Madaria Village of Lakhimpur Kheri, when the accused attempted to escape the Mitauli police custody after opening fire at the police team, further prompting retaliatory firing from the police. After the encounter the police seized the weapon from the accused and shifted him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A senior police official of the Uttar Pradesh police stated that the accused has been identified as Shamshad. The police have also recovered the illegal pistol and cartridges used in the incident from the possession of the accused.

ASP Western Naipal Singh said that the vicious criminal Shamshad has been arrested during a police encounter by a joint team of Uttar Pradesh police.

The police official said that on October 18, a case was registered at the Mitauli police station in connection with gang rape of a woman and shooting the victim when she protested. The main accused of the incident, Shamshad was taken to village Madaria for recovery of the illegal pistol, used in the commission of crime on Sunday night.

At around 11 pm the accused tried to escape the police custody by firing at the police team, prompting a retaliatory firing from the police in self-defence causing bullet injury on his left leg. The accused has been admitted to a hospital for treatment and is said to be out of danger.

Further legal action into the gang rape case is underway.
