New Delhi: A wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Vasant Vihar area of Delhi following incessant heavy rainfall on Friday. According to sources, three labourers are suspected to be trapped in the mud slush.
The exact numbers of people feared to be trapped is yet to be ascertained. Soon after receiving the information, rescue teams of NDRF, DDMA, civics agencies, fire, police rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operation. Divers and firemen were conducting searches as the trapped workers are suspected to have descended into a deep pit, news agency PTI quoted an officer as saying.
Efforts are underway to recover trapped people from the under construction basement. Following heavy rain, water had entered the basement area. Work is on to pump out the rain water.
The national capital on Friday received heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The downpour brought much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, further bringing the temperatures down. The rain also triggered waterlogging and traffic jams in several areas.
