New Delhi: A day after a tragic incident on the Colonelganj-Huzoorpur road in Gonda district, where two young cousins were killed and an older woman injured by a vehicle from Karan Bhushan Singh's convoy, the BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Kaiserganj has broken his silence. He clarified that he was not in the vehicle involved in the mishap.

"Firstly, this is an extremely unfortunate incident. This was an accident. I was going to Bahraich with four cars and the incident occurred with the cars that were behind me. One woman was crossing the road and to save her, the bikers swerved and were hit by the car. We are doing everything that we can do for the family," said Kaiserganj BJP candidate Karan Bhushan Singh on yesterday's accident.

Gonda Hit And Run: What  Had Happened Yesterday?

Speaking to reporters, Kernalganj SHO Nirbhay Narayan Singh said Rehan Khan (17) and Shehzad Khan (20) who were riding on a motorcycle were hit by a vehicle near a school.  Both local residents died on the spot. The SUV that hit the duo lost control and also hit Sita Devi (60) who was walking on the roadside, the SHO said, adding that the woman has been admitted to a hospital.

Family Members Demand Arrest of Accused

Enraged over the incident, the locals along with the family members of the victims blocked the road and demanded the arrest of those involved in the accident.
Senior police officials pacified the protestors and assured them of swift action in the matter.

The BJP named Karan Singh as its Lok Sabha candidate from the Kaiserganj seat, replacing his father Brij Bhushan, who is facing criminal charges of sexually harassing women wrestlers.
