Dehradun: Amid heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, the Chamoli-Badrinath National Highway was blocked by landslides on Sunday, July 7, as per media reports. 

As of now, no injuries have been reported, efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the road. 

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Kumaon, Chamoli, Pauri, and Rudraprayag districts. The state government has urged residents to exercise caution and stay in safe locations due to the threat of heavy rain-related disasters.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the District Magistrates to stay vigilant as over 200 roads have been blocked in recent days due to the rain. Due to heavy downpours, schools in eight districts will be shut down for students in grades up to 12th.

Anticipating further emergencies, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been placed on high alert. 

Due to the extreme weather events in the state, Char Dham yatra has also been put on hold temporarily.
