Chennai: The city and its adjoining areas received overnight rains on Tuesday, which led to flight disruptions. The rains provided relief to residents reeling under scorching heat.
Several trees were also uprooted in many areas, including in Kodambakkam, due to strong winds.
Several flights scheduled to arrive and depart from international and domestic flights were delayed due to the rains, news agency PTI reported citing airport officials.
Flight services to and from Dubai, Delhi and Pune were among those delayed, they added.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at some locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till June 22. Chennai is likely to witness partly cloudy sky in the day while thunderstorms are likely in some areas in the evenings for the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature will rise to 37 or 38 degree celsius while the minimum temperature will hover around 27- 28 degrees.
