Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai is the best metropolitan city in India for women in terms of inclusivity and conduciveness to work in 2023, a new study has revealed. The study by Avtar Group's Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) 2023 said that Chennai topped the list of 49 cities with a population of more than a million and Tiruchirapalli was the best city with population under a million.

The list was prepared based on the City Inclusion Score (CIS) which examined the availability of basic requirements such as safety, employment, sanitation, health, housing, education and the general quality of life for women along with their inclusion in society and workplace.

The study revealed that Chennai is on the top spot in terms of Social Inclusion Score (SIS) but slipped to rank 2 behind Bengaluru in terms of Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS).

Chennai's CIS score stood at 48.42 as compared to the national average of 21.59.

In addition to this, Delhi also made its entry into the top 10 cities for the first time. Known for being one of the most unsafe city for women, Delhi was on the 8th spot in terms of CIS, a jump from the 14th position last year.
