Chief of the Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat on Tuesday, interacted with a group of multi-religion religious teachers from former militancy-hit areas of Reasi and Rajouri on November 2019, who is on a tour to North India as part of Operation Sadbhavana. COAS Rawat spoke to the religious teachers and assured them that the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir will pave way for development. He also said that since people in the valley believe these religious teachers, it is really important that the teachers preach good teachings to the youth of Kashmir.
"Centre will address all issues," says Gen Bipin Rawat
General Bip Rawat said, "Education and healthcare is a priority and the Army will help in development of these aspects. The Government's main aim behind the bifurcation of Kashmir is to provide facilities to the people of Kashmir of which they have been deprived of so far. Centre will address all the issues of even the remote areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh." The COAS also mentioned that after a bit of training, it will also start recruitment of the youth in the Indian Army. "I am very happy that your group consists of preachers of all religions including maulvis and pandits. Kashmir is 'heaven on earth,' everyone should live in peace in Kashmir. You can also give recommendations to the 60 RR Batallion and we will surely think over it and take action if possible," Gen Bipin Rawat added.
Operation Sadbhavana
The religious teachers represent the major religions in the valley and included 15 Maulvis, four Pandits and two Granthis. This capacity-building tour, the first of its kind, showcases the secularism and unity of the Kashmiris working towards development of the region. General Rawat exhorted the teachers to work towards maintaining peace in the region and promised full support to them towards fulfilling their local requirements. Indian Army’s stand reflects the core values of the nation and this initiative is guided by this idea.
