Lucknow: Confronted by the Republic Media Network, former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's son on Thursday admitted that it was his convoy that mowed down two persons and injured a third one in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda on Wednesday morning.

Responding to the allegations that he fled the crime spot, Singh said, “It's wrong to say that I ran away from the spot. By the time I was informed about the accident of two persons, I immediately asked my people to take them to hospital. My people even helped for postmortem and took care of everything.”

He added that by the time he was made aware about the incident he reached another location for a public event. “But I ensured that the victims get the required help,” he said.

'Was Not Driving Vehicle'

Clarifying that he was not sitted on the driver's seat of the vehicle that mowed down two youths, Singh said, “For unnecessary reasons, I am being dragged into the incident when I was not even driving the vehicle. My escort vehicle was hit and these two children were driving in opposite direction.”

The BJP candidate from Kaiserganj claimed that he have footage of the incident to prove that he was not driving the vehicle that mowed down the youths.

He further rubbished the allegations that there are pressure on the police to not take action in the case. “This is all wrong that police is under pressure as there is no pressure and driver has already been arrested. I will go to meet the victim family as I am deeply saddened over the incident.”

Family of Victims Demand Justice

The driver, identified as Luv Kush Srivastava, was behind the wheel when the incident unfolded, according to the UP Police which has arrested him on charges of reckless driving, among others.

The police claimed that the deceased – aged 17 and 24, both of whom were cousins – were travelling on a motorbike when they were hit by the vehicle near Baikunth Degree College on Katra Bazar road around 9am.

“Both Rehan and Shehzad were run over by the car and died on the spot. The vehicle also lost control and further hit a 60-year-old woman, who was walking on the roadside. The woman, identified as Sita Devi, has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment,” Karnal Ganj station house officer (SHO) Nirbhay Narayan Singh said.

The victim's kin demanded justice and probe against the Karan on whether he was present inside the SUV at the time of the incident, a charge that Brij Bhushan and his son has vehemently demand.

Faman, the uncle of the deceased boys who were killed by the SUV, claimed that the vehicle was a part of convoy Karan Bhushan. He said soon after the accident they ran to the spot and took the duo to hospital but they could not save them.

“The car overtook and killed our children. We have lost our children. The convoy was of Karan Bhushan. We got to know that it was netaji's car,” he added.
