Jaipur: The Congress party on Saturday suspended its former MLA from Rajasthan's Barmer Mewaram Jain, accused in a gang rape case, after two video clips, allegedly featuring him in an obscene act, surfaced on social media platforms.

The viral video, showing the former Congress MLA indulging in obscene acts, added a new twist to an old case involving a complex web of allegations of sexual abuse, sextortion, and blackmailing.

In a late-night statement, the Rajathan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra said Jain had been suspended from the party's primary membership 'in view of his immoral activities.'

In a case against the former MLA and his close aide Ramswaroop Acharya, a woman lodged complaint last month that hey had been raping her for the last few years, had also sexually assaulted her teenager daughter and minor friend, and had been forcing her to procure young girls for them.

She further accused Jain and Ramswaroop, along with six others, including a Rajasthan Police Service officer, of trapping her in a fabricated case, leading to her harassment.

After the video clips went viral on social media on Friday, the BJP unleashed a scathing attack against Former CM Ashok Gehlot and state Congress unit.

Union minister Kailash Choudhary said protectors had become predators under the previous government, which earned the state the dubious distinction of being the leader in atrocities against women.
