COVID-19 spike in India: Maharashtra logs 50 fresh cases, active tally reaches 153

Mumbai: Amid a surge in the COVID-19 cases in India, Maharashtra reported 50 news Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the official website of the Health Ministry showed.

This comes with India reporting 312 fresh cases in the past 24 hours. The country also reported one death in Kerala. The death toll in the country stands at 5,33,334 as per the updated data at 8 am.

This is the second consecutive day that Maharashtra has reported these many cases. The state has logged 100 cases in the last 48 hours.

Kerala was the first state to have reported Covid sub-variant JN.1. The state also topped the state-wise chart. Other states including Maharashtra (50), Karnataka (73), Telangana (8), and Delhi (7) also saw a spine in the daily active tally. The active tally in Karnataka reached 344.
