New Delhi: India recorded 605 fresh COVID-19 cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the updated data on the website of the Indian Health Ministry.
The influx of fresh cases takes the active tally to 4,002. The overall COVID-19 cases tally stands at 4.5 crore.

The four fatalities were reported from Kerala (2), Karnataka (1) and Tripura (1). The overall death toll stands at 5,33,396.
As the winter sets in, experts are highlighting a certain surge in COVID-19 cases.

According to news agency ANI, a 70-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and an 81-year-old male with T2DM and HTN succumbed to coronavirus.
Furthermore, a 48-year-old male with CA and TB died, in Karnataka while one person in Tripura succumbed to the virus.

This comes as both Central and state governments are currently keeping a close watch on the new Omicron Subvariant JN.1.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the JN.1 as a variant of interest, distinct from its parent lineage BA.2.86.
