After assassination plot, Home Minister Rajnath Singh holds meeting to review Prime Minister's security. Here's who were present

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday issued a series of Twitter posts highlighting that he had chaired a meeting over the Prime Minister's security.

The meeting comes days after Republic TV's newsbreak about a sinister plot being uncovered to assassinate the Prime Minister.

Rajnath Singh said that the Maharashtra police had sent in a report to the Home Ministry over communications among individuals having links to Maoist organisations containing references to the Prime Minister.

The Home Minister's tweets almost certainly refer to the Pune Police recovering a letter from the laptop of Rona Wilson, one of those who was arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon caste violence that had broken out at the start of the year. The letter had, among other things, called for an end of 'Modi-raj' and had proposed a "Rajiv Gandhi-type incident" and for the Prime Minister's road-shows to be targeted.

The NSA, who had been written to by BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy after the plot coming to light, as well as the Home Secretary and the director of the Intelligence Bureau were present in the meeting. The Home Minister directed all necessary measures be taken in consultation with other agencies in order to suitable strengthen the security arrangements for the Prime Minister.

The release states the following: " The Union Home Minister today held a high-level meeting to review the Prime Minister's security in the wake of inputs about the threat to Prime Minister's life. MHA is in receipt of the report from the Maharashtra Police regarding certain communications amongst individuals having links to Maoist organizations containing references to targeting the Prime Minister. The National Security Advisor, Home Secretary and Director, Intelligence Bureau were present in the meeting. Home minister directed that all necessary measures be taken in consultation with other agencies to suitably strength the security arrangements for the PM"

When the plot had first come to light, the Home Minister, who was in Jammu and Kashmir at the time, had said that the Maoists were fighting a losing battle and that the number of states in which they had an influence had drastically reduced.
