PATNA: A Dalit woman was beaten up by a policeman using a stick in public view in Bihar's Sitamarhi. The video of the incident has gone viral, raising concerns over police brutality. The woman was seen beaten up by a cop in uniform. Following the incident, Pupri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), issued a clarification saying that the cop was only trying to maintain law and order in the area.

The officer said that after preliminary investigation, it was found that an altercation had broken out between two parties related to a kidnapping case in which a girl was recovered. The fight led to a traffic jam in the area, he added. The policeman only attempted to remove the traffic congestion and disperse the crowd through his actions, he further said. No action was not taken with an intention to beat up a woman.
