Cyber crimes emerge as serious challenge for Gurugram police | A report

The official data provided by the Gurugram police, shows that 33, 776 complaints of cyber crime were received by the city police 2023.

Cyber crimes continue to witness an upward trend in Gurugram. The official data provided by the Gurugram police, shows that 33, 776 complaints of cyber crime were received by the city police in 2023. Based on the complaints, 600 cases were registered and 650 accused were arrested after the investigation.

According to the police, out of 33,776 complaints, 23,356 have been solved, while 10,420 complaints are still under probe.

Gurugram Police bust 12 fake call centers this year

It is being alleged that Gurugram has turned into a hub of cyber criminals, who are not only targeting people in the city but across the country. Data shows that a few cyber swindler’s gangs are largely involved in targeting foreigners as well.

As per law enforcement officials, cyber criminals in Gurugram have managed to extract over Rs 200 crore from victims across the country.

Police sources said that the gangs have established fake call centers in Gurugram to dupe foreigners mostly residing in the USA and Europe. In 2023, the Gurugram police busted 12 such fake call centers and seized over Rs 18 lakhs.

A senior police official said, "Over the years, Gurugram has witnessed an increase in cyber crimes. We have solved several cases including cloning of debit cards, financial frauds through viruses and fake call centers.”
