NEW DELHI: In a shocking turn of events, gunshots were fired at a man in broad daylight near the Fatehpur Beri area in the national capital, on Thursday morning. The victim has been identified as Sundar, 36, who manages a club at the MG road area in Gurugram.

Sundar was travelling along with his brother Rahul when he came under the first round of fire at Gwal Pahari region in Gurugram, police officials said. The assailants then chased the victim for about 14 kilometres in Fatehpur Beri area where they not only fired gunshots again, but also attacked the victim's car with iron rods, following which they fled from the spot.

Three empty cartridges were found on the road and a damaged car was also found on the road side, the officials added.

The Delhi Police has recorded the statements of victim's brother and his work partner Harkesh, and investigation in the case is underway. Rahul, a resident of Dera Village in New Delhi, told the police that his brother Sunder runs a club in Gurugram (King Club), and that he was attacked by some persons while he was returning home this morning. He further told the police that his brother had personal enmity with some persons from Faridabad due to financial issues relating to the club.

Sundar, who sustained injuries on the head, is now receiving treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre. As per law enforcement officials, personal enmity over financial matters relating to the restaurant - Kings Bar - was the main reason for firing. "We have registered the case and have begun investigations into the matter. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of personal animosity arising out of a financial dispute. The motive, however, will become clear following the arrests," Chandan Chadhury, DCP (South), Delhi Police, said.

The accused in the case, however, still remain at large.
