Nagpur: A massive explosion caused by a gas leak at an ice factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district resulted in one casualty and caused severe injuries to three others. The incident reportedly took place at around 4.30 pm on Saturday, which led to a panic like situation in the area.
According to a police official, a 70-year-old worker was killed and three others were injured in an explosion caused by the gas leak at Balaji Ice factory located in Uppalwadi area of Nagpur.

Possible ammonia gas leak caused the blast, says police
Police sources said that during preliminary inquiry it was suspected that an ammonia gas leak in the storage tank caused the blast. The intensity was so massive that it caused widespread damage in and outside the factory.
An official of Kapil Nagar police station said that the explosion shattered the windows of nearby parked vehicles apart from damaging the walls of the factory. The wall of the factory reportedly collapsed after the blast.

The deceased has been identified as Dungarsingh Rawat (70), who hailed from Rajasthan. While the injured have been identified as Sawan Baghel (55), Khemu Singh and Nayan Arya. All the four were cleaning the factory, when suddenly the blast in the factory injured them.
After the incident, all the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Rawat succumbed to the injuries. The other three are undergoing treatment, said the police official.

On the other hand, after the incident, the local residents complained of difficulty in breathing due to possible ammonia gas leakage.
A case has been registered in the matter and further investigation has been initiated.
