Dalit teen resists sexual harassment, pushed into hot oil cauldron in UP's Baghpat

The teen suffered grievous burn injuries and has been moved to Delhi for treatment.

Baghpat: A distressing incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh that will give jitters to your core. An 18-year-old Dalit teen was pushed into a cauldron filled with hot oil when she resisted sexual harassment. The incident occurred at an oil mill in Baghpat where the woman was employed. She was subjected to the crime by her seniors including the mill owner.

The teen suffered grievous burn injuries and has been moved to Delhi for treatment. She has suffered burns on more than half of her body, especially on her legs and arms. Police have arrested three accused, including the mill owner. The teen’s brother had registered the police complaint on Saturday. In his complaint, he told police that members of his family worked at an oil mill at Dhanaura Silvernagar village.

He said that the victim was working at the mill when the accused -- mill owner Pramod and associates Raju and Sandip -- started harassing her and when she protested, the accused allegedly hurled casteist abuses. 

They then pushed her into the cauldron full of hot oil, he told police. The girl has also given a statement from her bed at a Delhi hospital, the 18-year-old said the accused misbehaved with her and verbally abused her and then pushed her into the cauldron. The police have registered a case under sections relating to attempt to murder, assaulting a woman and under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
