Two encounters in a day in Punjab, three carjacking gangsters injured, nabbed
In two separate encounters in a day, the Punjab Police captured three gangsters from Patiala and Mohali on Saturday.
Chandigarh: In two separate encounters in a day, the Punjab Police nabbed three gangsters from Patiala and Mohali on Saturday. In both encounters, the gangsters first opened fire on the police teams when they were chasing the gangsters. This is the seventh encounter in the past 10 days in Punjab.
In the first encounter reported in Mohali in the morning, the Mohali police team was chasing gangsters who were carjacking. The gangsters opened fire on the police teams after they were intercepted.
In the exchange of fire, both gangsters sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
The arrested gangsters have been identified as Parambir Singh alias Prince and Karamjit Singh. The duo has dozens of cases against them including extortion, robbery, and other serious charges. Meanwhile, the police have also recovered the snatched car and weapons from their possession.
SSP Mohali Sandeep Garg said, “Following the tip-off, the CIA (crime investigation agency) staff Mohali chased the gangsters. After intercepting their car, the police teams asked them to surrender. But instead of surrendering, the gangsters opened fire on the police teams. In retaliation, both gangsters sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital.”
In the second encounter in Punjab, Malkeet Singh Chitta was injured after exchange of fire in Patiala. The wanted criminal Malkeet was being chased by the Patiala Police team. Malkeet opened fire when he was intercepted by the police. He is wanted in six cases, including murder and attempt to murder.
SSP Patiala Varun Sharma said, “Malkeet was a wanted criminal and police teams were tracking him for a long time. Malkeet opened fire with three bullets on police teams and in defence, the police fired, resulting in Malkeet being injured and nabbed by the police.
