COVID-19 Latest Updates: Despite a decline in the active COVID cases in India, states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and New Delhi continue to report an increase in their daily COVID-19 infections.

India has logged 743 new covid cases in the past 24 hours and the active tally currently stands at 3,977 a slight decrease from 4,091. The death toll in the country stands at 5,33,351.

In the past 24 hours, India logged 129 cases of the JN.1 variant, with Kerala and Gujarat reporting the highest as per the data from the Health Ministry.

Active cases in India:

The national capital, Delhi reported its first JN.1 variant case on Wednesday this week. The capital currently has 47 active cases.

Given the rising COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 active cases across the country, the Gurugram administration has directed all hospitals to be on alert as a total of 12 such cases have been reported so far in Gurugram, Haryana.

Kerala, the worst hit COVID-19 state, as of December 30, 2023, has logged 40 JN.1 variant cases. Meanwhile, Gujarat reported 30, and eight cases were reported from Karnataka and Maharashtra each. The state has 2,522 active cases.

Karnataka on the other hand as per the ministry data reported 134 cases in last 24 hours. The active stands over 568 cases. Following the virus situation in the state, the government revised its COVID-19 guidelines and made home isolation compulsory for infected people.

Maharashtra on the other hand has 369 active cases.

Tamil Nadu has also been witnessing a surge in the covid cases. The state has 136 active cases as of now.
