Delhi metro tragedy: Woman comes under train as saree gets entangled at Inderlok Station, dies

The victim was going to Mohan Nagar from Nangloi in west Delhi when she met with the accident.

Delhi: A distressing incident unfolded at Inderlok Metro Station where a 35-year-old woman who had got under a metro train succumbed to the wounds on Saturday. The victim, identified as Reena, took her last breath at Safdarjung Hospital. On Thursday, she had come under a metro train due to a piece of her clothing getting entangled in the doors as they closed. Whether she was boarding or disembarking the train still remained unclear. 

"An incident took place at Inderlok Metro station on Thursday where prima facie it appears that a woman passenger's clothes got entangled in a train leading to injuries and subsequent demise in hospital on Saturday," Delhi Metro's Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal said. To delve into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety will conduct a thorough inquiry, he assured. No case has been registered so far in the matter.

"Police are probing it and if needed, legal opinion shall be taken," an officer from the Delhi Police said. Vicky, a relative of the woman, said that the victim was going to Mohan Nagar from Nangloi in west Delhi when she met with the accident. 

"Upon reaching Inderlok Metro Station and she was changing the train. Her saree got entangled, causing her to fall and sustain severe injuries. She was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in critical condition. She passed away on Saturday evening," the victim's family told PTI. Reena, who lost her husband around seven years ago, is survived by a son and a daughter.
