New Delhi: Residents of Delhi woke up to a pleasant morning on Friday, a day after the national capital and its adjoining areas, including Noida, received rain which brought much-needed respite to people who were reeling under scorching heat for the past few weeks. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that monsoon is likely to arrive in Delhi-NCR by June 30.  

Light rainfall had lashed several parts of Delhi and its neighbouring areas on Thursday bringing much-needed relief. The rain was attributed to a fresh western disturbance. 

Earlier, The IMD had predicted moderate intensity rain and winds in several parts of Delhi NCR for Thursday. "Light to moderate intensity rain and winds would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, Central-Delhi, NCR , said IMD had said in its forecast.
 

No Heat Wave Likely Over Next 4-5 Days

In a sigh of relief, the weather agency has also predicted that no heat wave condition is likely over most parts of the country over next four-five days. 

"No Heat wave conditions likely over most parts of the country during next 4-5 days," the IMD said in a post on X on Thursday. Meanwhile, the monsoon has made further advancement into parts country. 

The Monsoon has further advanced towards some parts of the country.

"Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Northwest Bay of Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar," the IMD added. 

Swathes of northern and eastern India remained under the grip of a punishingly long heat wave on Wednesday, leading to a surge in in heatstroke-related casualties and prompting the Centre to issue advisory to hospitals to set up special units to cater to such patients. 

Surge in Heatstroke Casualties

Many hospitals in Delhi recently witnessed a surge in heatstroke cases due to the severe heat wave conditions. At the Centre-run RML Hospital, 22 patients were received in two days, resulting in five deaths, with 12 to 13 patients on ventilator support. Safdarjung Hospital reported 60 heatstroke cases, with 42 admissions and six fatalities, including a 60-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man who died on Tuesday. LNJP Hospital authorities report that four patients have died from suspected heatstroke in two days. 

Delhi Records Warmest night in 14 years

The national capital experienced its warmest night in at least 14 years, with the minimum temperature soaring to 35.2 degrees Celsius, over eight degrees above normal, the IMD said on Wednesday. The maximum temperature also exceeded the season's average by 4.8 degrees, reaching 43.6 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the previous record for the warmest night in Delhi was on June 3, 2010, when the minimum temperature reached 34.7 degrees Celsius.
