Surat: A 25-year-old doctor committed suicide at his home in Surat’s Adajan area in Gujarat, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Rahul Narayan Chandani.

According to police, the doctor was facing mental health issues after the death of his mother seven months ago.

“He was found dead on the first floor of his house,” police said.

Police said that the doctor used to visit her aunt for meals but one day he did not go there leading to suspicion.

“His aunt tried to reach him by phone. On getting no response, she went to his residence about 2:30 pm. When he did not answer the door, she asked neighbours for help, and one of them managed to enter the bedroom by climbing onto the balcony. Chandani was found hanging from the fan hook,” police said.

Police further stated that the doctor was taking medicine for mental health issues.

“He lost his father when he was a child. His mother died seven months ago. It is possible he slipped into depression after his mother’s death,” the police official said.
