Mumbai: At a time when India became T20 world cup champions, State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a warning in "cricketing" style to its customers against fraudulent messages being sent to them and urged them not to fall for it.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), SBI said that fraudsters are sending fake SMS regarding updation of KYC, redeem rewards points etc.
“Don’t Let Fake SMS Bowl you out. Fraudsters will bowl you with fake SMS to update KYC, redeem rewards points etc. Don't get bowled out. Stay alert and stay safe,” SBI said in a post.

SBI further stated that it sends SMS only from short codes starting with SBI or SB and does not use regular phone numbers or any other short codes like SGCLSC or SGMRBY.
The public sector bank also urged the customers to Immediately report fraud to the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or file a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/.
“If you receive any suspicious SMS claiming to be from SBI, report it promptly to the bank's customer service helpline or at your nearest SBI branch,” the bank said.
Earlier in January, police busted a gang which was involved in duping bank customers of their savings.
Police acted on the complaint after a woman last year in August was duped of Rs 5.4 lakh after calling a number she believed to be her bank’s customer care number.
“The victim stated that she searched the customer care number of her bank on the internet and called a mobile number mentioned there. The person who received the call advised her to download one ‘Rust Desk App’ to which she complied,” police official said.
According to police, fraudsters took access to her bank-related information and transferred money from her account. A case was registered and a team led by inspector Vikas Kumar Buldak was formed to crack the case.
