New Delhi: The central government has declared Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar's birth anniversary on April 14 as a national holiday in recognition of his significant contributions to Indian society and the Constitution.
Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat made the announcement on Friday through a post on the social media platform X.
Shekhawat in his social media wrote, “The architect of the Constitution, the one who established a new era of equality in society, our revered Baba Saheb, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji, will now have a public holiday on his birth anniversary.”
"By taking this decision, the devoted follower of Baba Saheb, the honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiJi, has honored the sentiments of the nation,” he added.
Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, commonly known as Baba Saheb, was the principal architect of the Constitution of India.
Born on April 14, 1891, Ambedkar dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of marginalized communities, particularly the Dalits, and played a pivotal role in the establishment of a just and equal society in India.
Ambedkar's deep commitment to social justice and equality led him to challenge the caste system, advocating for the upliftment of the untouchables.
Ambedkar’s legacy has had a lasting impact on Indian society, and his birth anniversary has been celebrated widely for decades.
