Bengaluru: Dramatic scenes were witnessed outside the Karnataka Assembly on Friday as Speaker UT Khader suspended 18 BJP MLAs for six months with immediate effect, citing indiscipline. The suspension sparked chaos, with marshals stepping in to escort the legislators out of the House amid heated protests. The videos of the incident have been doing rounds on social media.
The expelled MLAs, including Opposition Chief Whip Doddanagouda H Patil, Ashwath Narayan CN, SR Vishwanath, and BA Basavaraj, were seen raising slogans and staging a protest as they were removed. Visuals from the Assembly premises showed BJP leaders engaging in a heated face-off with security personnel, refusing to leave even as marshals intervened.
The 18 legislators facing suspension include:-
According to the order, the suspended MLAs will be barred from entering the Assembly hall, lobby, and galleries for the next six months. They will also be restricted from participating in standing committee meetings or submitting any agenda items under their names. Additionally, any directives issued by them will be disregarded, and they will not be allowed to vote in committee elections. Their daily allowances have also been revoked for the suspension period.
With the Assembly in turmoil, the suspension has triggered a political storm, with BJP leaders slamming the move as an attempt to stifle opposition voices. The party is expected to take the matter up with higher authorities, even as the controversy over the alleged honeytrap scandal intensifies.
