Boosting eco-friendly practices, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has constructed a road using plastic waste from Gomti Nagar Police Station to Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the city. This is the first time such a move has been done. Speaking to  ANI, LDA chief Engineer Indushekhar Singh has shared that 8-10% of plastic waste was mixed with coal tar to increase durability. He also added that the plastics used were less than 50 microns in weight.

Singh also said that LDA has followed guidelines of the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) in road construction. He added that on World Environment Day, they declared that they would be using plastic for road construction in the future.

He added that LDA will do more research on the pilot experiment done on the construction of the  above-mentioned road in the next two years to know if there was any scope of improvement. LDA's initiative was inspired by the success of roads in many foreign countries. In India too, many civic bodies have started road construction using plastic waste in an environmental-friendly experiment.
