Exercise Bright Star-23 being held in Egypt moves towards its Culmination Phase

This exercise has worked on interoperability between the participating nations and their militaries which is helpful to learning each other's skills.

Ex Bright Star-23, the exercise in which the Indian Army and Air Force are jointly participating in Egypt, inches towards its culmination. This exercise also sees the participation of various countries apart from India such as Egypt, the US, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Qatar. The Indian Army and the Indian Air Force played crucial roles in this joint exercise. According to the Indian Air Force, the last phase follows a build-up to more complex joint missions. It will also involve the assets of all the participating forces.

Culmination Phase of Exercise Bright Star-23

The exercise Bright Star-23 has entered its final stage. The IAF has used its Rafael fighter jets in the exercise. This exercise has worked on interoperability between the participating nations and their militaries which is helpful to learning each other's skills and working together for operating in complex situations, and warfare and also to learn from each other the best practices.

The last phase will also involve a build-up to more complex joint missions. It will involve the assets of the participating forces. These assets will include aircraft, bombers, mid-air refuellers and many more weapons of the participating militaries.


The IAF contingent also had its Garud special forces participating in the exercise and conducted joint on-ground operations. The IAF’s participation aimed to increase international defence cooperation as well as provide practice for planning and carrying out joint operations. The IAF’s contingent consisted of 5 Mig-29s, 2 IL78S, two C130-J super Hercules aircraft and two C17 aircraft.

These joint operations at the end of Ex Bright Star23 will enhance into build-up and practice complex missions which can come in very handy during the current global situation. The exercise was held at Cairo Air Force Base. This year's Bright Star exercise witnessed participants from 34 countries, making it the largest-ever military exercise in the Middle Eastern and North African Region.

This exercise provided new skills and training to all the participant nations. These activities will encompass field and situational training exercises and will culminate in a combined arms live-firing exercise set within a tactical scenario. The participants in the exercise also discussed Contemporary topics, like Cyber Security to deal with the cyber security issues in the military and jointly share crucial data for global security.
